When it comes to parking at the Leeds Arena, first things first – Leeds First Direct Arena does not have a car park.
That surprises people every single week. Thirteen thousand of you turn up on
a Friday night, and every one of you parks somewhere else. So here’s every
realistic option, what it actually costs, and how long the walk is.
Our own car park is two minutes from the arena doors, although ours is a small boozers car park and can’t accommodate the spaces that the others can and so some of them will suit you better than we will.
The thing nobody mentions: Getting back out
Everyone compares parking on price and walk time. Almost nobody thinks about
the bit that actually ruins your night.
A gig ends and thirteen thousand people leave at once. Several thousand of
them get into cars within about ten minutes of each other. And here’s the
part that matters: the big car parks near the arena don’t just have queues
inside them – they feed into one-way systems and the inner ring road,
which are already at a standstill because everyone else is doing the same
thing.
So it’s three queues, not one. The spiral ramp inside the car park. The
one-way loop that won’t let you turn the way you want to. Then the ring road,
where you’ll sit watching people who left during the encore sail past.
You paid £14 to spend an hour in first gear.
That’s the bit to plan around. The walk is five minutes of your evening.
The exit can be an hour of it.
So, where is the best place to park for Leeds Arena?
Most comparisons stop at price and walk time. We’ve added the column that
actually decides how your night ends.

Woodhouse Lane – cheapest, except on event days
Over a thousand spaces and the lowest rates going, which is why it’s the
default recommendation everywhere.
Two things that recommendation usually leaves out. It’s a 7-ish
minute walk and getting out means the one-way system and then the inner ring
road, with no alternative; at peak that’s not a queue, it’s a car
park with a different name.
If you’re counting pennies and you’re patient, it’s one of the cheapest options. Just budget the time as well as the money.
The Core – fine, if you arrive & leave early
Both are proper city-centre multi-storeys with plenty of space and decent
security. Both are also directly in the post-gig crush. They work well if
you’re the sort of person who’s happy to duck out during the encore and deal with city centre traffic and road works.
Q-Park St Johns
Well signposted and you’ll be pointed at it by every ticket email you get. Reliable, central, and priced
accordingly. They have parking offers for event days but also means it fills first.
CitiPark, Clay Pit Lane – closest, and you’ll feel it
The nearest multi-storey to the arena, which sounds ideal until you meet the
access road: narrow, one-way, and shared with everybody else who had the same
clever idea. On a sold-out night it is genuinely unpleasant, both getting in
and getting out.
It’s also where you meet the other multi-storey classic; arriving late after being stuck in traffic
finding one space left, and it’s the one next to the concrete bollard because
the BMW beside it has claimed a space and a half. You’ll spend the entire gig
thinking about your wing mirror.
The Leeds Rifleman – ours
We’re a pub on Carlton Parade with our own car park, just off Carlton Gate two minutes’ walk from
the arena doors. Here’s the honest take, and it’s a simple one:
For Leeds Arena Parking – You can’t beat it – with us, you skip the entire system. Not just the spiral ramp; the one-way loops, the gridlocked access roads, the forced exit onto the ring road, the roadworks that nobody seems to be actually working on, all of it.
When its all said and done you reverse out of your space and you drive away through a quiet estate, away from all the chaos.
That’s the whole trick: you swap out all the chaos and you sacrifice none of the convenience. We’re closer to the arena doors than almost anything on this page, and arguably the cheapest.

You’ve got somewhere to wait. This is the actual trick. Rather than
sitting in an exit queue, walk back, and let the traffic clear while you’re
somewhere warm with a seat. Twenty minutes later the roads are empty. Your
driver gets a coffee, everyone else gets a pint, and you leave when it suits
you instead of when the queue allows.
And it’s a real family run pub, not a chain.
One thing about Google Maps
Ask Google for walking directions from our car park to the arena and it’ll
tell you eleven minutes, sending you on a wild loop via Lovell Park Road.
IGNORE IT – DO NOT DO THIS. Leave from out of the top of the car park, turn left, You’ll be able to see the arena over the road. Cross over the road and the arena is on your left. Two minutes. One turn, one road, and you can see where you’re going the whole way.
Practical tips, whichever you choose
- Book ahead for big shows. Everything within a ten-minute walk sells out
for sold-out nights. - Check the arena’s own travel page for road closures. The city centre constantly has some form of road works and road closures.
- Consider not driving at all. Leeds station is a twenty-minute walk and
the buses are frequent. If you’re all drinking, that’s the right answer and
no amount of parking advice changes it.

No. The arena has no car park of its own, which is why everyone parks in the surrounding multi-storeys or with us.

Anywhere from about £2 for a short stay to £15 for 24 hours, depending where you go. Ours is £2 to £12, and free if you’re eating, drinking or staying with us.
How far is the walk from The Leeds Rifleman to the arena?
Two minutes. Out of the top of the car park, turn left, and it’s in front of you. Google will tell you eleven minutes because its pedestrian routing sends you the long way round — ignore it.
